Erica Synths DIY opensource

Post by Girts23 »

Image
Dear colleagues,
as Erica Synths discontinues its legacy DIY eurorack projects, we decided to make them opensource. We created Gerber files for PCB-made front panels and did slight changes in module design in order to get rid of custom and rare components, however some modules still require rare ICs and Delay module - a pre-programmed MCU board, which are available on www.ericasynths.lv.
Projects are available on https://github.com/erica-synths/diy-eurorack, and each project folder contains complete information and files to build a module: schematics, Gerber files for a front panel, Gerber files for PCBs, BOMs, component placement with values and designators and assembly manuals (please, note that some manuals are designed for older module versions).
By making these projects open source, Erica Synths accepts third party use for personal, educational or commercial purposes.
Erica Synths will not provide any support for these projects, please, refer to build threads here on Muffwiggler for information on build nuances, troubleshooting, part availability or alternatives.
Open source projects are:
Bassline – all in one synth voice for acid basslines and drones
BBD delay/flanger – all analogue effects unit based on V3205 BBD IC Delay – tape and digital delay unit with tap tempo, tempo sync, reverse, hold and add functions
Dual VCA – Polivoks architecture inspired dual VCA, rare Russian differential opamps are now replaced with AS3330
Envelope – recreation of Polivoks envelope generator with loop and end of attack functions
MIDI-CV – Polivoks functionality inspired dual MIDI-CV converter with glide function
Mixer – simple 3 chanel audio mixer
Modulator – Polivoks functionality inspired LFO, noise and S&H module
Output – Output module with headphone amplifier
Polivoks VCF – authentic recreation of the Polivoks VCF
Swamp – our take of Wogglebug module with lots of unique extras
VCO3 – Polivoks inspired VCO with nice extra – VCO Sync input

Thank you all for you support previously!
We, in collaboration with Riga Technical University, are now working on educational DIY kits for simple and affordable eurorack modules. We plan to announce them this Autumn.

Girts and Erica Synths team.

Great idea, thanks.
It would be nice to have a source code for the MIDI2CV module also (only hex is available) to customize it and maybe to fix some errors (module sometimes is going "wild" and refuses to work properly).

I only saw the .hex, not the source itself - maybe it’s missing?

And where exactly is the source code? I can't find it...

This is great news. How likely is it that someone will order a run of Swamp pcb’s? I would like one.

I am thinking about it. I need to look it over some more to see if there are any rare parts or calibration procedures to slow me down. if there is no support then I want to be sure I can follow it through before I jump in.

I went ahead and added all the content from the zip files into proper github repos for easier ingest into the process and tracking.

Looks like the sample and hold chip is hard to find but I wonder weather the TI LF398 is a substitute.

yes but this would require a redesign of the PCB. this was hard to find so I will post it here for your use.

Any word if the MCU for the delay will have a released BOM and the firmware released?

Eurorack is an exercise in delayed desire.
