European Parliamentary Week 2024, 12-13 February 2024, Brussels

The European Parliament together with the Belgian Senate and the House of Representatives, representing the parliamentary dimension of the Presidency of the Council of the EU, organised the European Parliamentary Week 2024, on 12 and 13 February 2024.

In the context of the economic, employment and budgetary policies scrutiny, the European Parliament together with the Belgian Senate and the House of Representatives representing the parliamentary dimension of the Presidency of the Council of the EU organised the European Parliamentary Week 2024, on 12 and 13 February 2024 in the European Parliament in Brussels.

Annually the European Parliamentary Week brings together Parliamentarians from the European Union, candidate and observer countries to discuss economic, budgetary and social matters. It includes the Interparliamentary Conference on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance in the European Union established by the Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union (Fiscal Compact).

The Conference provides a framework for debate and exchange of information and best practices in implementing the provisions of the Treaty and aimed to strengthen cooperation between national Parliaments and the European Parliament. The Conference also contributes to ensuring democratic accountability in the area of economic governance and budgetary policy in the EU, particularly in the Economic and Monetary Union, taking into account the social dimension and without prejudice to the competences of national Parliaments and the European Parliament.

This year edition of the European Parliamentary Week was the last one for the 9th term of the European Parliament. First day consisted of the welcoming session in presence of three Presidents of the European Parliament, the Belgian Senate and the Belgian House of Representatives. Opening session followed by three parallel Interparliamentary Committee Meetings by the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs and the Committee on Budgets. On the second day, two plenary sessions covered "Strategic investments and reforms in view of enhancing EU's growth potential" and "The future of the EU single market and taxation".
